Article 6 of the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, adopted in 1950, entitles an accused “to a fair and public hearing within a reasonable time by an independent and impartial tribunal established by law.” The Andreas Georgiou saga stretches the term “reasonable” to its limits. The hearing date for Andreas’ appeal of the slander case has been delayed yet again, despite the fact that Greek law allows only one postponement.
The new date is set for September 24, 2020.
